Some families walk away from their dying relatives because they can no longer cope. The dying process can take too long. What more is there to accomplish when amends is made, forgiveness is given and final goodbyes are said? What is left to do when all there is left to do is wait until the end?

Some family members stop visiting as often, don’t stay as long, or just stop coming altogether. Is this abandonment? Or is walking away a form of coping with the stress of a drawn out dying process?
